Veteran Health Career Education Project

This training at the Community College of Allegheny County is free to honorably discharged veterans and their spouses who are currently unemployed, underemployed, low-skilled or on public assistance.

All of the training and clinical hours are free, but uniforms and state certification exams must be paid by the individual.

The project provides education in two programs:

Paramedic Training Program

The Paramedic Training program is 10 to 14 months in length, including 644 classroom hours and 500 hours of clinical patient contact experience.  This will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) examination. You must be already trained as an EMT to enroll in the paramedic program.

Certified Nursing Assistant Program

The Certified Nursing Assistant program is 24 days in length, including 12 days of theory and 12 days of clinical patient contact experience.  Upon completion, students will be eligible to take the Pennsylvania Department of Education Competency Examination.
