County Offices Closed in Observance of Election Day

PITTSBURGH – As a reminder to the public, all County offices, with the exception of the Elections Division and Elections Court, will be closed tomorrow in observance of Election Day.  The polls open at 7 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, 2013, and remain open until 8:00 p.m.

The Elections Division has provided the following reminders to voters:

  • Verify your polling place in advance by visiting the County’s polling place locator at World Wide Web Icon http://apps.county.allegheny.pa.us/VoteDistricts/. You can also verify your registration and view a sample ballot.
  • If questions arise regarding a voter’s eligibility, provisional ballots will be available at all polling locations. All provisional ballots will then be examined by county election officials to determine if the individual voting that ballot was entitled to vote at the election district in the election.
  • Everyone voting in person on May 21 will be asked, but will not be required, to show approved photo identification in order to cast their ballot.
  • Those voting in person for the first time on May 21 will be required to show approved forms of either photo or non-photo identification.  This is a requirement of the federal Help America Vote Act passed in 2004.  Approved forms of ID include PA driver’s license, PennDOT ID card, ID issued by any Commonwealth agency, ID issued by the US Government, US passport, US Armed Forces ID, student ID, employee ID, non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth, non-photo ID issued by the US Government, firearm permit, current utility bill, current bank statement, current paycheck, or government check.

Additional information on voting and elections is posted on the Elections Division website at www.alleghenycounty.us/elect.  Once the polls have closed, election results will also be posted and updated as additional results are received.  For any problems, questions, or concerns on Election Day, please contact the Elections Division directly at 412-350-4500.
