PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh will host a “Ground the Jets Rally” on Friday in honor of the Steelers AFC title game against the New York Jets. The event will start at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 21, around the Terrible Tree in the courtyard of the Allegheny County Courthouse at 436 Grant Street in Downtown Pittsburgh.
“Fans turned out in force for last week’s rally, and the Steelers went on to beat the Ravens and ruin their season,” said Onorato. “It’s time to the pack the courtyard again this Friday and rally the Steelers to ground the Jets and move on to the Super Bowl.”
“Friday is the time for fans to show our home team just how much the Steelers Nation is ready for number seven” said Ravenstahl. “I’m so confident that the Steelers will bring home a win that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and I are asking all residents to submit their best ‘mayoral’ wager idea on the City of Pittsburgh’s Facebook page. The most creative idea will be announced on Friday on the City’s Facebook and Twitter pages.”
WDVE’s Val Porter will serve as emcee of the event, and Kardaz, Pop Rocks and David Queen will provide live music. Steelers mascot Steely McBeam will also help to rally the crowd.
Eat’n Park, Dunkin’ Donuts and Turner Dairy Farm will provide limited, complimentary refreshments on a on a first-come, first-served basis. Hometowne Sports will provide a limited number of free giveaways, and complimentary face-painting will also be available.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a Steelers trivia contest for prizes provided by Dick’s Sporting Goods, VisitPittsburgh, Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, Hometowne Sports, Carnegie Science Center, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Carnegie Museum of Art, Allegheny County Parks, and Mitchell’s Restaurant & Bar.
The County Executive and Mayor have declared Friday “Black & Gold Day” and are encouraging everyone to show their support for the Steelers by donning black and gold.
Ravenstahl and Onorato are also asking those attending the rally to continue their generous support of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank by bringing a canned good, non-perishable food item, or cash donation.
Fans are encouraged to continue contributing black and gold decorations and Steelers paraphernalia to adorn the 20-foot Terrible Tree.
