Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald

It’s a great time to live, work and play in Allegheny County. I am proud to be the Allegheny County Executive, and to play a role in seeing our vibrant community thrive.

Almost every week, the Pittsburgh region receives another accolade. Kiplinger says the Pittsburgh region is one of 10 Great Places to Start a Business. We’re ranked near the top of ten best places to pursue the American dream and # 2 in intergenerational upward mobility. In June, we had a third visit from the President of the United States in just five months – a President who frequently references Pittsburgh as an example of how to get things done.

Our people and our economy reflect that success. Our County’s population grew again this past year. Pittsburgh is ranked first in the world in housing affordability. Over 10,000 jobs were created in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area from March 2013 through April 2014. Wages grew 13% from June 2009 through December 2013, our 5.6% unemployment rate remains below state and national averages, and nearly 33,000 jobs are currently available in Allegheny County.

Ultimately, it is our practice of working together that makes our region so successful. Together, we are strong, motivated, linked, informed, and educated. I’m so grateful that our 1.3 million residents are part of that success story and look forward to the continued prosperity our region will enjoy because we work together.
