DHS Events

DHS hosts various annual events to celebrate achievements, raise money and increase awareness about the needs of persons served by the department. Many of the events are open to the public. Others require pre-registration. Some are by invitation only.

Public events

Allegheny County Music Festival
Allegheny County Music Festival Date: September 5, 7:30 p.m.
Location: Hartwood Amphitheater (Get Directions)

The Allegheny County Music Festival is an annual benefit concert for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund, which provides enriching items and services for children served by DHS. This event is held at Hartwood, a County run park in the North Hills. Past artists include Dave Crosby, Blues Traveler, Rusted Root, The Clarks and Don McLean. 

Holiday Project

Location: Allegheny County

The Holiday Project provides gifts for children receiving services from the Office of Children, Youth and Families during the holiday season. These gifts are donated by companies, groups and individuals living in Allegheny County. 

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

DHS KEYS AmeriCorps members join AmeriCorps members from around the County and Western Pa. and community volunteers to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by participating in service projects to brighten up local communities.


Project Prom

Project Prom provides formal attire to high schools students receiving services or eligible to receive services from the DHS through donations from retail establishments and the general public.


Senior Celebration in the Park

An opportunity to engage older County residents with information, activities, food and entertainment as a way of honoring the value they bring to the community.

 

Flowering of Insight Art Exhibit

This annual art exhibit is a place for artists who receive services from DHS to showcase their talents and sell their artwork. All of the money made from the sale of artwork goes directly to the artist. 

 

Families United Celebration

CYF is nationally recognized for keeping children safe with their families. This free event in Shenley Park celebrates the strength of  families and is open to the public.

Candidates Comedy Night 
Candidates Comedy Night PhotoDate: August TBA

Candidates Comedy Night is a fundraiser for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund. Established in 2008, the festivities feature candidates for state and local political offices and other local political leaders taking the stage at a local comedy club.

Family Fall Festival 
Date: October 9, 2010

An annual event that brings all members of CYF foster families out for a day of fun, food and education.

Day of Self Discovery 
Date: May TBA 

Begun in 2001, the Day of Self Discovery Conference is an annual event that brings together individuals in Allegheny County who are personally involved in the process of Recovery. Persons who live with mental health concerns or substance use disorders, along with their family members and other supportive stakeholders gather to share about their Recovery experiences in varied and creative ways.


Invitation Only

Celebration of Success Luncheon 
The Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) recognizes and celebrates achievements in academics, social, sports or personal goals despite the adversity in their lives of youth.

Foster Parent Recognition Dinner 
This evening of appreciation acknowledges the generosity of men and women who become foster parents for children who are removed from their homes because of abuse, neglect or other serious issues.

Local Government Case Competition 
Graduate students from local universities compete in interscholastic/interdisciplinary teams to solve challenging public sector problems and increase their knowledge of local government employment opportunities.
